What to visit in Mondaino:
The Malatesta Fortress of Mondaino : it has a strong impact, visible from the valley floor, with its grandeur of the past, valuable architecture of the fourteenth century. From a bull of Pope Sixtus IV we read that the construction of the fort was the work of the Mondainesi.
Paleontological Museum: Set up in the Malatesta Fortress in 1981, it exhibits a sample of the fossils of fauna and flora found in the territory of Mondaino, dating back to the end of the Miocene (about 5 million years ago). The fossils of Mondaino are famous for the variety of fish, belonging to 21 different species, and for the rare remains of birds.
Portaia Tower: Inside the Portaia Tower an accurate historical reconstruction of a guardhouse was carried out. All the furnishings, weapons, furnishings and even the games were made by specialized craftsmen selected from all over Europe. Referring to both written and iconographic historical documentation, it has thus been possible to reproduce what must have been the atmosphere of those environments around the mid-1400s.
Majolica Museum: In September 1995, following the maintenance works inside the Fratte Park, an exorbitant quantity of ceramics was found. Thanks to the workshop scraps, it was possible to document the production of majolica on the spot, which until then had only been hypothesized. Following this event, studies on Mondainese majolica began, involving prominent personalities such as Sergio Nepoti, an undisputed expert in the field of ancient ceramics.
