What to visit in San Marino
The Government Palace
This palace is the fulcrum of the official ceremonies of the Republic of San Marino and the seat of the main organs of the small republic such as the Captains Regent, the Great and General Council, the Council of XII and the Congress of State. In the summer, it is possible to watch the changing of the guard every 30 minutes.
The Three Towers
The towers that dominate Mount Titano and the city of San Marino are:
The Guaita, the first and oldest tower, the Cesta, second tower and seat of the Museum of Ancient Arms, and finally the Montale, the third and smallest tower. In this tower is a hidden prison, 8 meters deep, which can be accessed.

The Basilica
It was built in the early nineteenth century, in place of the existing Romanesque church. Inside, in the main altar, the remains of the Saint Marino are preserved.
The Crossbowmen’s Quarry
The quarry opened for the extraction of the stone necessary for the restoration of the Government Palace. Later the quarry became the hub of archery competition. In fact, the Palio dei Balestrieri takes place here every year.
The Wax Museum
This particular museum contains 40 scripts of the history of San Marino and much more. There are 100 characters from the most varied eras, from Napoleon to San Marino and San Leo.
The Museum of Curiosities
An original and unique museum that preserves finds of strange inventions, unusual characters, and uniqueness such as the 60 cm clogs for the Venetian high tide and many other oddities. More than 100 curiosities await you!
The Torture Museum
A true journey into pain: more than 100 tools are exhibited to procure pain used, in the past, on heretics, political opponents, witches and the mentally ill.
The cities of art to visit around San Marino
Verucchio (6,5 km)
A splendid medieval village, included among the most beautiful villages in Italy. Verucchio has a wonderful castle from the Malatesta era. In fact, Mastin Vecchio was born here and founded the Malatesta dynasty and was also mentioned in Dante's Divina Commedia.
Montebello (13 km)
Famous castle, known for the ghost of Azzurrina that wanders within its walls. Legend has it that an albino girl disappeared in 1375 in the basement of the castle and that no one found her anymore. Here you can listen to the original recordings, between rain and thunder and the crying of the missing child.
San Leo (22 km)
Small medieval village dominated by a Roman military-style fortress. Here, in 1631, the castle was transformed into a prison and the famous alchemist Cagliostro was imprisoned on these walls and died.
Gradara (39 Km)
Awarded as the most beautiful village in Italy in Gradara there is a fabulous castle, one of the most visited monuments in the Marche region. The Malatesta Fortress became the set of a romantic and tragic story, the one between the lovers Paolo and Francesca, mentioned in the Divina Commedia.
Urbino (49 km)
A splendid city of art in the Marche region, Urbino was one of the most important centers of the Italian Renaissance. Its historic center is included in the UNESCO heritage: to see the Palazzo Ducale that contains works of immersed value such as those of Raffaello, Tiziano and Piero della Francesca.
Ravenna (65 km)
A city of art with a thousand-year history, Ravenna is famous for its mosaics, all to be discovered. To see are the famous Basilica of San Vitale, the Basilica of Sant’Apollinare, the Mausoleum of Galla Placida, and finally the Mausoleum of Theodoric, erected in the 6th century for King Theodoric the Great.
